What's in your emergency kit for the trail -- Jute?

This picture made zero sense until I read the thread here at Backpacking Light.

It is worth flipping through a few of the gear queries on this site.

FInd something you hadn't thought about? Let me know...

Wilderness Permit Schedule

Yosemite National Park - Wilderness Permits Reservation Window (U.S. National Park Service)

This is a handy table showing you when to apply for wilderness permits for the JMT.

The large group we were going to have on the trail is now three, so I don't think it will be a big deal.

The Park distributes 50% of its permits ahead of time and 50% day of hike.

Since we're going on prime time, we'll be up early making calls.

best fishes,

Timothy

PS: I am thinking about making a new version of the JMT Harrison Maps-- making a field guide of the backs of the map to show flora and fauna. May go down to Yosemite in May to see what it's like with the wildflowers out in bloom.

Zen Stoves

My friend Pete recommended Zen Stoves for use on my trip.

Right now I am leaning against a stove and even a tarp. May try to get the weight down to under 30 lbs including bag. pack, pad.

Water should be abundant, and DT says there won't be skeeters.

Let's hope so. I may bring a net for my face -- just in case.
